Eventide

Eventide was an exciting choreographic process that took six months of planning and over three months of creation to bring to performance. Drawing together a cast and crew of over seventy people, the project included, an international team of professional performers, and five groups of local community dancers and volunteers. The final performance took place across the ancient medieval town of Higham Ferrers; responding to the English Heritage site of Chichele College and Bede House. The Water Rail

The Water Rail (2014) is a filmic response to the landscape across Northamptonshire's Stanwick Lakes nature reserve, and the rail is a fiercely territorial ground-nesting bird that dwells in wetland. The film was created and shot along the reclaimed railway route that runs from Stanwick to Ringstead's canal lock. In the middle of the 19th Century, up to 1000 people descended upon the Nene Valley to build one of the first railway tracks to London, many families lived and worked along the line in temporary and often difficult conditions. The Alston Inspired Project

What happens in the silence (2017) was the culmination of a very special collaboration between the Richard Alston Dance Company and Two Thirds Sky. The curtain raiser performance featured twenty extraordinary young performers from across Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire, and was co-choreographed by RADC dancer Ihsaan de Banya and Laura Gibson from Two Thirds Sky. Ephemeris (2023)

The structure of the piece was driven primarily by a complex score, Equus (2008), composed by Eric Whitacre. An orchestral piece for brass, Equus has both an underlying rhythmic swell and a vast dynamic landscape. It is centred around bars of 5 and 10 counts, with other time-signatures phased in and out of those underlying patterns. These sonic layers, both supported and challenged our movement-making and allowed the piece to respond to the music’s ever changing surprises. The choreographic process created gestures, initiated by different historical images that symbolised ‘power’, which were then abstracted, sequenced and distributed across the body and into the space.

Hold

In this 2019 piece Two Thirds Sky reinvents dance's relationship with romanticism - not tutu tulle and Giselle's madness, but the 19th century philosophy that sees the romantic as being between the real and the imagined.

The duet sees two dancers hurtle from the darkness to become what choreographer Lisa Spackman calls "apparitions of a forgotten past." Integrating intricate choreography with live vocals and costume: "Hold demands that you live vicariously through the performers, I was rapt throughout and exhausted by the end!" (BedsFringe 2010).
